Mid-July Merchant Memo

Hi Everyone,

I don’t know about all of you but the summer is flying by here in the AI office! Here is some news and a little recap of past, present & future activities:

Upcoming Events:

  • Big Dig, Sunday June 25: About 2000 folks came out for a day filled with construction themed activities. A big thank you to Carrie Kohs, pucci Manuli,  Vivi Zaya, Lulu’s Casita, Iesha Jones, Let Them Play Learning Center,  Viking Pastries,  and of course, One Ardmore Place for their planning and support of this wonderful event! We also got a lot of great pre- and post- event press coverage: We were on PHL 17 and Fox 29 TV & had major print coverage in Main Line Times, Philly Mag, Phila. Business Journal, Metro Philly, City Suburban News and more.
  • Ardmore Restaurant Week: Monday, July 17 through July 30. Visit the website for a list of participating restaurants and their specials. Please support your fellow business owners!
  • National Night Out, Tuesday, Aug. 1: Due to construction in Suburban Square, National Night Out has moved to Wynnewood this year. AI will have a table to promote our events & activities as well as anything you would like us to share. Please deliver any materials you would like us to distribute to our office by Friday, July 28.Also, we will again have our Spin the Wheel contest in which folks have a chance to win prizes from local businesses when they sign up for our Eblasts.  If you are willing to donate items or gift cards, please email Christine@ardmoreinitiative.org.
  • Pop-up Movie Nights: As part of our efforts to promote businesses around the Cricket lot during construction, we will be hosting 2 pop-up movie nights next to Viva Video. The first will be on Sat. 7/22 & we will show the movie SING, with a kids’ karaoke competition preceding the movie. Karaoke starts at 8, the movie screens at 8:30. The second movie night will be Lego Batman on 8/26.
  • Maido Obon Festival: Maido brings the delightful Obon Festival back to Schauffele Plaza Saturday 8/12 from 7 to 9:30 pm. Please stop by to enjoy!
  • Main Line Bike Race, Sunday 8/20:  First-ever Main Line Bike Race will be held throughout downtown Ardmore on Sunday 8/20. For more info visit the website.

Other News & Announcements:

  • Cricket Ave Road Closure: Please be advised that Cricket Avenue will be closed between Cricket Terrace and W Athens Avenue for water main and service work at the Ardmore 1 project on Cricket Avenue.  The work is scheduled to begin on Monday, July 31st, and finish on August 3rd, 2017.  Detour signs will be in place to get vehicles around the work zone and Cricket Avenue from W Athens up to the Township Parking Lot on Cricket will be switched to two way traffic so the Township Parking Lot will still be accessible for parking.  The road closure hours will be from 8:00am until 4:00pm.
  • Parking: Remember that the lot on the corner of Ardmore & Lancaster Aves. is available for permit parking weekdays & is open to the public evenings & weekends.
  • Trash Cans: Please remember that public trash cans are for the public. Businesses and upper story tenants should not use public trash cans to dispose of trash. Please help us keep the downtown clean & inviting. If you need info on commercial trash companies, please contact us.
  • Façade Grant funds available: We are pleased to announce that we have grant funding available for improvements to facades within the business district. Info and applications can be found here.
  • PECO work: PECO continues to work throughout downtown Ardmore. For questions or concerns please contact John Turnbach at John.Turnbach@infrasourceinc.com.
